Storie da tre parole. Rana, luce, cucchiaio.

Martino abitava poco fuori città, fuori abbastanza da credere che tutto attorno alla sua casa potesse esserci solo campagna. La sera, appena le luci della strada si accendevano e il sole spariva dietro ai campi, si metteva sul davanzale e guardava le nuvole scure passare davanti alla luna. Un giorno, dalla finestra, mentre il cielo era pulito come una tovaglia appena lavata, sentì uno strano rumore, come un gracidio, venire da sotto la finestra, proprio dove c’era il pozzo. Incuriosito decise di scendere in cortile. La sera era fresca, come solo una notte di acerba primavera può assicurare. Si diresse, nella penombra, verso il pozzo seguendo il suono che a tratti rompeva il silenzio dell’aia. Una luna a occhio di bue incombeva sulla notte. Martino guardò nel pozzo e vide che in fondo in fondo c’era una lucina che brillava. Silenzio.

Provò a buttare il secchio, ma appena sentì il tonfo nell’acqua e guardò giù, si accorse che la luce era sparita, inghiottita dai cerchi concentrici creatisi in superficie. Silenzio.

Dall’alto dei suoi sei anni Martino provò di nuovo. Tirò su il secchio e la luce ricomparve, poi lo lasciò improvvisamente e quando quello toccò il pelo dell’acqua la luce scomparve di nuovo. Ritentò un paio di volte senza riuscire a capacitarsi dei capricci della lucina. Poi, come sei il pozzo gli avesse suggerito un segreto, corse in casa e dal cassetto del tavolaccio in legno prese un bel cucchiaio da minestra. Con quello e un po’ di pazienza avrebbe catturato quella luce impertinente. Con il sorriso di un bambino furbo ritornò al pozzo, calò il secchio lentamente immergendolo del tutto e attese. Quando il pelo dell’acqua si chetò la luce ricomparve, incorniciata dalla bocca del secchio. Allora con estrema cautela lo fece salire, sempre attento a che la luce non scappasse via. Bloccò la corda al chiodo e tirò il secchio sui mattoni del pozzo. Cucchiaio alla mano si sporse sull’acqua pronto a catturare la luce e in quel momento si sentì per la prima volta davvero un bambino. La luce altro non era che il riflesso della luna. La toccò con il cucchiaio e quella si spense tra mille onde. Con un sospiro girò il cucchiaio nel secchio, come fosse caffelatte in una tazza e solo allora si accorse che sul fondo c’era una piccola ranocchia bianca, pallida come la neve. Per un attimo rimase pensieroso, poi decise che se non poteva avere la luna avrebbe almeno potuto tenere la rana. Così, nel silenzio della notte che ormai aveva mangiato ogni cosa, tornò in casa e mise la bestiolina in un bel vaso trasparente con due briciole di pane. Lo appoggiò sul davanzale della finestra e andò a dormire. Da quel giorno, ogni mattina appena finita la colazione, portava qualche briciola di pane o di biscotti alla sua nuova amica. Il tempo passava e guardando la rana si accorse che sotto la sua pelle bianca si muoveva qualcosa, come se una nuova rana stesse crescendo dentro alla prima. Briciola dopo briciola, giorno dopo giorno, la rana diventava sempre più scura e Martino stava ore a osservarla mentre pigra nuotava nel vaso. Un giorno, però, tornato in camera con un pezzetto di pandolce e il muso ancora sporco di latte, corse al vaso e vide che la rana non c’era più. Se n’era andata, lasciando sul fondo, come un vestito vecchio, la pelle stropicciata che un tempo aveva indossato.
